Universal Conflict - Star Trek

Postby Johenric » Mon Aug 14, 2017 5:29 am

Universal Conflict is coming...
A Star Trek ship list for Starmada Unity

All the major powers of the prime timeline, books and the various games are coming.

Universal Conflict - Star Trek is not trying to recreate any other previous game system in Starmada Unity. UC-ST goal is to bring all the Star Trek ships in the lore and present them in a reasonable and logical way in the Starmada system.

The D7 was never a direct match for the Constitution but two or three could easily be fatal.

Just as the Kinshaya are savage in close combat, so built are their starships. Klingons learned the value of hit 'n run and stand off combat when facing the "Demon" spheres because of the Kinshaya's poor accuracy. This would be somewhat solved in later Kinshaya ships but even so they always prefer it close and brutal.

A good race for beginners as their ships can take a beating and will always have multiple weapons bearing on the enemy no matter your facing. Get close and roll well and your victory will be swift.
This is an example of what I meant when I said all the powers will be represented. A race that can give a Klingon nightmares is worthy of representation!
Next up I will throw something in from a different time period.

Before the Federation

The Intrepids held down the fort while the Enterprise class ships explored, and stirred up trouble.

Just curious, why do you give the Point Defense modes on the Phasers both Pnp and NPr? You're basically cancelling out the benefits of the Pnp trait to make them slightly less effective against ships at really close range.

The idea is that the phaser is firing multiple shots but still using in total the same amount of energy as if it had fired one concentrated shot (normal fire). These fast shots are for small targets like fighters or missiles.
The NPr is to show that this mode is not meant for ships as the individual shots are much weaker. At the same time I did not like that it reduced the accuracy of the weapon on tiny targets so I used Pnp to offset the penalty.
Up to TOS the Federation did not have much experience against missiles or fighters. In later designs (Late TOS, TMP and onward) you will start to see the NPr go away as Starfleet more often encounters fighters and missiles. This will show that later weapons were built with the rapid fire point defense in mind and not just a stopgap modification to an existing weapon.

NOTE: Personally this has been a rough call for me as I try to balance "canon" with what games like SFB and FC present us. I figure it wasn't until late TOS that encounters with races like the Kizinty (Mirak SFC) begin to occur in a more serious nature and point defense becomes a serious thing. Again, this may not jive with SFB but in balance with canon (seen on TV) we never see the TOS Enterprise deal with missiles or fighters. So I have moved this idea to more of the TMP era.

MRCAcct, Thank you for pointing that out as I see it could be an eyebrow raiser.
If you have a better idea of how you think this should be represented please let me know.

Very interesting

When (and where) the whole range of ships will be released?
They are particularly original. Which material was used to create the ships?

The "whole range" is quite a lot of ships. That will be in the hundreds. Right now i am releasing bits here and there to see what kind of reactions i get. That way people can give input and affect the final product if they like. No-one is perfect and I am doing this myself other then play testing with my friends. I plan on releasing the factions by era. The TOS Federation will be the first fully completed faction. That way we can get a pretty good base line. Then most likely the TOS Klingons so you have someone to play against. Some spattering of the minor powers like the Kinshaya, Kzinti, ISC and others will pop up from time to time.

As to my material, EVERYTHING. If i can make it make some type of sense it's in! I have seen every episode of every series many times. I have most of the games table top, PC, and console and my friends of have EVERY other game. I even have blueprints and books from the 70's that a friend loaned me that i am afraid to touch because they are falling apart. Web sites like Daystrom Institute Technical Library (DITL) and Memory Alpha and Beta are some of my sources. DITL is a hard core 'canon' site and i don't agree with some of his stuff because I allow for writer and CGI error. DITL for the most part does not. With me if it doesn't make sense it goes out with the trash and the same goes for Memory Alpha and Beta.
I love many of the races you see in the various games that you never hear about on screen and I like to think that many of these events might have taken place in the prime timeline (at least for the purposes of this game) in some form or another.
