First stab at BSG

My first design any thoughts?

I'd need to see what kind of opposition you plan to throw at them, but based on the reimaged show, I think that it's looking a little weak (I mean, look at the pounding that Galactica took for all those years).

I have tons of models painted so I was going for a larger number of ships in the fleets so smaller individual ships. I've added more since these pics were taken too.

Personally, I prefer the larger number of smaller ships. But to each his own. ;)

It's amazing to me that, 23+ years later, I'm still fighting hull-size-creep. The early versions of Starmada had a hard cap of 12 hull points.

Yeah, I know my Battlestars are hideous monsters. :) At the time I was going for accuracy to models and images as opposed to being more playable. My AE Galactica actually had 90 AFBs and 130 Marines, and the 8 extra secondary batteries on the underside of the hull that we never see used. :o Curse my rules lawyer nature.

I'm actually trying to fight the urge for hull creep myself now.

Well, to me, I always considered hull 20 to be the average-sized battleship, with light cruisers being ~hull 6, heavy cruisers being 9-12 hull, 'battlecruisers' being hull 16 etc. The larger ships I design are meant to be juggernauts or homeships (like the back-converted hull 50 Holoki ships). The problem I had was that, with the SX/SAE fighters, I had to implement larger hulls to build weapons that had (in my mind) a chance of engaging fighters. Now, with the Dfn trait, I can have range 3 weapons that can act as PD batteries, so maybe I might be able to not go beyond hull 35...:)

The larger ones are impressive, but 7000 points would be a large game!

For me, I was hopping to capture the feel of the shows but make it so that each "fleet" is around 1500 points. I don't have much of the other classes of ships so I figured that two Battlestars (at around 750 points apiece) would be a good starting point.

I would up the range of the railguns. I feel like those had both distance and power at long range.

Like you say to each his own. I prefer my battles to be more drawn out with ships getting battered rather than the Space Battleship Yamato/Starblazers-style ship shoots, hits another ship, that ship blows up. It's one of the nicest things about Starmada that players can build with the same rules to tailor their ships to the way they like to play.

To me the problem with the biggest ships being limited in scale is not the big ships being too big, its scaling the small ships so that they "fit" with the big ones. If I have, say, the equivalent of a 57,000 ton WWII battleship capped at a Hull value of 12 it's very difficult for me personally to build a low-end ship like a WWII DE that has the right attributes...At the "scale" of the BB the DE ends up being either too big at a hull of 1 or representing a group of ships which I just don't like as much.
