Lots of people have tried to be polite to me about how ugly the Excel SSDs are. This is an example of MacGyver's Pocketknife - Excel isn't the best tool for the job of creating a usable pretty SSD, but it can create a usable ugly one.
Mike Zebrowski hates the Excel tool with a passion that's brighter than a thousand suns.
Fortunately, he likes the game. He's been working on a tool that will take the XML from the XML-Export tabs of the ship design sheets and produces a PDF.
He and I have been debugging things for about two weeks. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel (where it's not obscured by user error on my part).

We currently plan on a simul release of the Open Office and Excel versions of the ship design tools with support for SSPDF output; progress is going nicely and when it's done, I'll make an announcement.
