Everyone's favorite project to ignore....

Postby thedugan » Thu Jan 01, 2009 10:14 pm

Well, SFO has languished for some time. I'd like to see this project come to life, but I'm not able to do it one my own. Dan's initial concept - IIRC - was an ofshoot of Iron Stars mechanics. Next was a couple of NEW stand-alone systems, and last I recall he was thinking about using it as a setting for Starmada.

What do YOU think?

We have Starmada, why not use it and expand it?

What about "just for fun"?

I like the thing just like it is.

WHICH thing? There's really not a default ruleset for Space Fleet Omega, and I don't recall what the last set was that Dan put out for review...

I wasn't under the impression that rules were required is all I'm saying.

So, it's a setting without rules, and just a story? Or, it's a Starmada Setting....?

I've got a cold, I'm home from work, pardon me if I'm sounding pedantic. I feel like crap...If it's a Starmada Setting, then we at least need ships. My own leaning is to use a 'subset' of Starmada rules.

By that, I mean that we have 'defined' weapons with fixed values, you just pick what weapons and systems that go on your ship, and add up all the values. I'm not sure how that would work out in practice, but I'm thinking ships more akin to those in Starfire in terms of creating them, rather than the more complex system used for Starmada proper.

We could streamline the rules a great deal, aiming more for fleet level. The idea is to have ships that could easily be defined in Starmada, but operate in a more streamlined way for SFO.

I think my antihistamines are crapping out....
