Siege of Augusta Update 11/30/2010
We continue to add players, events and vendors!
Siege of Augusta will be presented January 21-23, 2011 in Augusta, Georgia at the
Doubletree Hotel 2651 Perimeter Parkway, Augusta, Georgia 30909
Hotel Reservations: (706) 855-8100 Mention that you are with Siege of Augusta
www.siegeofaugusta.com
Game registration Rob.DavisRGG@yahoo.com
Vendor registration mcb19682000@yahoo.com

While we are billed as an historical miniatures gaming convention (being sponsored by the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society-Mid South), events are not limited exclusively to historically-based games. If you want to host a role-playing, fantasy, science fiction, or other event, you are welcome to sign up and attend. The only genre that we do not host is live-action role-playing (LARP) games due to space considerations. We look forward to ALL GAMERS attending this year’s Siege!

New Games and Events just added:

Warmachine/Hordes Tournament Hosted by Rob Davis

French and Indian War, Brother against Brother, 40mm, MVP Prize
Host Bob Moon
In Spring of 1754, the French began construction of Ft. Boeuf in northeastern Pennsylvania to solidify its expansion into this area. The British sent a force to prevent further works and to burn what was done. To break the Anglo siege, the the French sent a relief force. Would it be successful?

ACW Fire and Fury Regimental 28mm, MVP Prize.
Host Bob Moon
Chickamagua was more a series of desperate struggles between groups in thickets than grand sweeps over which generals of corps or divisions had control. This is such a fight where regiments often acted independently of their brigade command.

French and Indian Canoe Race
Host Dwight Jones
Colonial American Period, French and Indian Naval Rules, 28mm
The Trappers have had a good season, but the Indians want the furs. Can the trappers make it down the river first?

Mermaid Atoll
Host Jessee A. Scarborough
Rules: Biplanes & Battleships – The Great Pacific War, 1931 Scale: 1/6000 ships, Period: Interwar
Description: Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and US Navy cruisers and destroyers skirmish on the Truk-Enewetok axis. Inspired by Hector Bywater’s kick ass book, the game portrays a nighttime naval action from a counterfactual 1931 war in the central Pacific.

Featured Z Man Games
Host Cory Hockman
Duel Of The Giants
Earth Reborn
Mines Of Zavando
Other games will be available for player review with Cory and for purchase from Augusta Book Exchange.

Report for Siege of Augusta XX

Overall Attendance 155

Friday night was very strong, but by Saturday evening it was kinda light. A lot of folks came in Saturday just for the day. We would like to get more folks to stay over night Friday or Saturday. The Raffles went ok with us selling all the raffle prizes.

Overall, the Warhammer tournament attendance was disappointing, and we are working on revising our entire policy of registering people for all tournaments. Another item which came up during my conversations with several attendees was that the old web site was still up with the old events, the new websites email link was apparently not passing emails on to the SOA organizers, and then the new web site went down Thursday and is still down. All of this combined to create a great deal of uncertainly at to what was going on at Siege, and if we were even going on. We are in the process of building an entirely new website for SOA XXI to address this issue.

We had a good showing of board games with Settlers of Catan and a number of titles by Z man games getting a good showing.

Here is the feedback from just one local gamer Mark Bakke.

“The 2011 Siege of Augusta was a very good event. I'm always amazed and envious of the skills, imagination and dedication of the historical miniatures players. It's worth the price of admission just to see the incredible minis and setups. See the pics that Paul just posted for a good taste of what was there.

For me, of course, it was about boardgames. I brought in a stack of games featuring war themes and conflicts. The one that generated the most interest, by far and no surprise, was Dust Tactics. The great-looking minis and the ease of play were great points in its favor. I played four different games and all opponents greatly enjoyed it. I also got a chance to play Cold War: CIA vs KGB, Commands & Colors: Napoleonics, and Battles of Westeros -- all of which attracted several onlookers and kibitzers.”

I didn't spend much money buying stuff this year. There was a bit of a lack of newer board games that I didn't already have. At the flea market tables, I picked up a nice copy of the old Avalon Hill classic, Conquistador, along with the huge hard-cover companion book to Ken Burns' classic PBS documentary series, The Civil War.

Thanks to Mike Baker and everybody else whose efforts make the Siege possible!

Siege of Augusta Awards
Jim Birdseye Picture as memento for founding and leading Siege of Augusta for 15 years.
