Is there a proper Gaming Con...

Postby thedugan » Sat May 30, 2009 2:14 pm

Anywhere in the DFW area? I ain't talking Austin or Houston, that's more than a couple hours drive......

Seems we have a Comic Con (just finished IIRC) of some sort - but I'm talking something where one might actually see something like Wardogs or Starmada. While fun to watch occasionally, *GaMeR GiRlzz* dressed up as their favorite Anime Character is not the point of the inquiry.
;)

Besides, I look stupid dressed up as Thor.

They have a comic con of some sort (or rather had one) near me. Yeah, it's like 'geek porn' for some, but I'm married.
;)

I don't have the legs for it, I hate shaving.

..and my balls get cold in big shorts, I can't imagine a skirt (or kilt)....

If you don't know, just say so, Jim. :)

I will go officially on the record (In triplicate and filed under "eew") that I do not know now, nor have I ever known the relative temperature of your testicles.

LOL

Well Millennium Con in Round Rock (Just North of Austin) is the closest I know of offhand and it's in November. We have lots of guys who attend from the DFW area every year (And If you live there, you really SHOULD join Lone Star Historical Miniatures)

http://www.lshm.net/

And I am running a big Starmada game at Millennium this year BTW, using Ad Astra's Russian Squadron Strike minis and Zandris IV's Fleet as well.

I'm not so much a historical gamer.....I've been aware that their was a "wargaming society" around.

You'd think, since Dallas is the 8th largest city in the country, we'd have something around here. Austin might be doable, but I was hoping to drive straight to it from the house, rather than sleep over at a relative's house (I've got relatives in Austin, San Antonio, Kerrville, but mostly in the smaller towns) or rent a hotel room (bleehhh - had my fill of those years ago).

"Historical Gamer" is just the name. We play EVERYthing. Historical, Sci Fi, Fantasy, etc, etc.

We've done AT-43, Aeronef, Warlord, Full Thrust etc, etc, etc. We have hundreds of members and generally speaking you won't find a nicer group of gamers out there.

Anyway, for what it's worth we would love to see you at the Con.

When and where are meetings? My primary problem is that I work weekends, and will for the forseeable future.

I don't game with the DFW members except when they are down here.

What I suggest you do is join the LSHM free email list and fire an email to the group! People play at all times during the week, not always on the weekends.

http://www.lshm.net/mailinglists.htm

just sign up at the Dallas/Fort Worth Icon. I know Brian Cantwell and the gang would love to have some more folks play!
