FlatCon 2008 Day 1

Postby jimbeau » Sat Oct 04, 2008 2:52 pm

Day 1

Got to breakfast about 8am, w chatted for a while, then talked about what everyone was doing, etc.

Got to the con about 9:30, started pulling vendor stuff in the garage doors and continued to plan for the kick butt ares game we plan to run.

most of the stuff is at Noel's but I did bring a couple of the bits I was working on Thursday night. The Game is a double blind game where both payers have the same models on each side, but we modified it so that eveyone has hide. anyway, more on that later today.

Around 2 the first games started and I got to play Aaron's big ship game and hung out with the boys. I played a few games of Rubber Band Wars which rocked and Chris and I signed up for the Starship Troopers game.
but we got there too late and the mix of persoalities wasn't all that great so I just told chris we'd find something else to do.

We did get to play a few computer games and the boys at UHACC rock for giving away wireless access!

At any rate, pictures to come of the "Occurrance at Christmas Cemetary"

Saturday: Day 2

Got there around 9: did some shopping, looking, talking, etc. Noel got in with the terrain around 10, we managed to snare a guy to play at about noon. It worked out okay, and he wanted to play again afterward but had to leave. The blind system worked as planned and the "what the Heck was that" when the Werewolf showed up was relatively satisfying.

In the afternoon I played Starship Troopers and got eaten by bugs, not a bad game, really when you take the commercialism out of it. I think it has an odd feel to it, not "quite" what they were going for. Not the book, not the movie(s) or the cartoon. But not bad.

Chris got into a pirate game that looked very cool, I think he was mosttly just excited to play real games for a change. I was excited that I could leave him for 3 hours without worrying about him. Very cool.

Evening session was StarWars minis using Legos instead of, well, Star Wars minis, I had to be more available for that as Chris was getting a little tired and had a harder time focusing. However, he stuck it out, even past the point where some of the adults had left. Go Chris.

We'll see what today has to offer.

Pics to come later.
