MJ12 Con - possibility?

Postby jygro » Tue Jul 15, 2008 3:36 am

I think I bring this up every year in hopes that there will be a MJ12 Con in the future. Perhaps in the area where MJ12 first started-ish and go for Bloomington, Illinois in late March or early April 2009. I figure that the 'hall' opens on Friday at 6pm-ish and go until Sunday around 1pm-ish. I don't have any actual values on cost, but probably around $25 dollars for the hall pending that ~50 people show up (hotel about $120 per night for 4 spots).

Anyone in the area want to grab the torch and try to get this started. I mean we got 8 months.

My wife and I would both be there with bells on if one was held.

Probably could help out too, but not in a primary planner/show runner capacity as we have too much on our plates for that -- and we already help with another local con.

Thing is, though that out of the 400 people who are subscribed, only FIVE managed to vote so far.

When 50 people vote that they'll come, then I think we'd be ready.

~50 people prereg'ing for the event gives the 'organizers' ~1250 dollars to rent the hall. I'd say enough room for 10 4'x6' tables (8 in a pinch) for 'two days' would be good, but what do I know about organizing a convention (nothing, trust me).

Now, it would be ~85 dollars plus travel whatnot per person if you knew 3 other MJ12-ites (my new word for us).

That entice anyone yet?

When we ran our convention in '93 and '94, we had 14,000 sf or so plus a kitchen, plus camping/RV area for $400 the weekend. We rented the county fairgrounds. May not be as posh as a motel, but it had everything we needed...(including enough room for a lazer tag arena) $20 a pop...had 80+ folks first year....100+ the next.

Might consider that as an option if you have such at whatever location you arrive at.

*L* dunno Jim...but it was just a game con in general. Hadn't even heard of MJXII back then. It was actually the only RPGA sanctioned event in the PNW at the time, both years.

I didn't do a third year simply because noone stepped up to help...and it was WAY too big of a job to do alone. :)
