New web host?

Postby mj12games » Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:38 pm

I just found out that the web hosting service we've been with since the very beginning is closing up shop, effective 1/1/11. :(

Anyone have good experiences with their web host that they'd like to share?

After the service of my long time host when to the crapper, I moved my sites to TMDhosting.com and the last 8 months have been fine and any issues have been handled quickly.

They haven't had any of the usage limit issues I had with the old host and they say they are experts with phpBB.
Plus they are less expensive than my old host.

I have *not* heard good things about GoDaddy. My older brother has had issues with it and the site that he runs on there is a simple WordPress based site for his photography. So take that as you will.

Although this is an old post, I share my own experience for other members who read this topic to make their decision about choosing a web hosting company.

As you has searched and viewed godaddy, bluehost, hostgator, dreamhost, ipage, fatcow... all are very popular and recommended by many users. Honestly, I have direct experience with godaddy, hostgator and ipage. Among the mentioned companies I recommend not choosing godaddy because of their customer services. They don't offer any email support service any longer, only chat and phone numbers are available: https://www.godaddy.com/help and https://www.godaddy.com/contact-us.aspxImage. As you can see on these pages there is no email to contact them for technical support. This for me from overseas was very annoying, especially because calling them was not free from overseas. So my recommended companies are ipage and hostgator. To get more info about both have a look at http://www.ipage.com/hosting-featuresImage and http://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/hosting-plan-comparison/hosting-comparision-feature-summaryImage. By the way, I've heard good reports about bluehost, but I don't have any direct experience with them.

Hope this helps.

According to my experience, Inmotionhosting is one of the most reliable web hosts. They offer good services at affordable prices.
