Starmada: Fleet Ops now available!

Postby mj12games » Sun Apr 10, 2011 2:24 pm

Starmada: Fleet Ops™ takes the Universal Game of Starship Combat to a whole new level! Now you can fight larger battles than ever before, with fast-playing mechanics and streamlined rules that retain all of the flexibility and customization you've come to expect.

In addition to adapting every current starship and weapon design option from The Admiralty Edition, Fleet Ops introduces several new concepts to Starmada, such as command ships, escorts, and fleet morale.

The game includes rules for building fleet-scale starships from scratch as well as guidelines for converting your favorite Starmada designs.

Starmada: Fleet Ops is a stand-alone game, enjoyable on its own or as a compliment to your existing Admiralty Edition fleets. So raise shields, charge primary weapons, and scramble fighters — your destiny awaits!

Neat. So do you do print on demand, or are these printed already? I was just curious whether it was worth waiting to see if there are any errata.

Purchased, skimmed, and so far I think it looks pretty good. I'll have to see if I can get through all the details today while pretending to do my job...Now, it's up to one of the "Spreadsheet Guys" to help us all out by either whipping up a SFO sheet, or incorporating it into one of the existing ones. I would give it a crack, but my Excel Fu is weak.
Cheers,
Erik

After an initial full read through of the rules all I can say is I can't wait to play it! I really like the scale and the manner in which the new "fleet level" traits have been incorporated. I particularly like the role played by initiative, and how it is modified by Command. I can't wait to tinker around with conversions from Starmada, as well as some universes where the fleet level abilities will have a chance to shine. Kudos once again Cricket.
Cheers,
Erik

Looks like I'm going to have to pick this up once I start my summer job and have income again... sadly, this delay means I will probably not get to test my spreadsheet skills on this fresh problem. Also, I imagine larger fleets / higher total points means that my dreadnought-favoring opponent will get a chance to field all of his designs (last game we played, he only had a thousand points and couldn't pull an 800 point ship). Should be fun.

Funny thing... In the SFO book I say the maximum hull size is 12.

Any bets on how long THAT will last? :)

Tried to absorb the rules over the weekend, but since I work weekends, didn't get too far. Monday is my 'do nothing day' - but I've been informed that I have to go buy a new television this evening since we got our tax refund .....

I'm VERY happy that it appears that existing ships from Starmada can be converted to the system, but that added complexity means I'm going to either have to wait for a spreadsheet by someone else, make one myself (uuhhh...yeah) or work up my little project by hand....<IE, it ain't happening right away, but WILL happen>

Dan, I am NOT going to take you up on that bet - I expect a Deathstar posting inside of a month....complete with canon fighter wings....
Becuz I'm da friggin' ART FAIRY - dats why!

Bought, downloaded and printed mine last night, I like it. :)
Starmada conversion in a spreadsheet though, AArgh, pages 28 to 31 are a (insert own word here) nightmare.
Also a few things like Command could have done with Starmada figures (even if they are not used in a Starmada game.) The way I put the optional VBAM equipment figures in the shipyard for construction only.
Got most of a sheet going for Fleet Ops, still have to decide on how many ships/types to put on one sheet (maybe five).
